My Favorite Sources for Free Design Assets
My Favorite Sources for Free Design Assets
As a beginner designer and content creator, I rely on free resources a lot. They help me try new styles, experiment with layouts, and make my designs look more polished without spending money. Here are my favorite sources for free design assets that I use all the time.
1. Canva Elements
Even on the free plan, Canva offers tons of illustrations, icons, templates, and shapes. I use these for quick social media posts because they’re easy to customize and fit into any style.
2. Pexels – Free Stock Photos & Videos
Pexels is my go-to for clean, high-quality photos and video clips. The images feel modern and aesthetic, which works perfectly for Instagram, thumbnails, or moodboards.
3. Unsplash – Aesthetic Photography
Unsplash has a softer, more artistic style. I use it when I want minimal, clean, or lifestyle photography. It’s great for backgrounds, mockups, or blog visuals.
4. Freepik – Icons, Vectors, and Illustrations
Freepik offers almost everything—icons, vectors, banners, patterns, and templates. Some require attribution, but many are free to use. It’s perfect when you need a very specific design element.
5. Google Fonts – Free Font Library
Whenever I want new typography ideas, I check Google Fonts. They have hundreds of free typefaces that work well for web, social media, and branding experiments.
6. Figma Community – UI Kits & Templates
For learning layout, UI design, or digital content, the Figma Community provides free components, templates, and kits shared by creators everywhere.
7. Pinterest – Inspiration & Saved Assets
Not everything on Pinterest is downloadable, but it’s amazing for finding:
-
color palettes
-
font combinations
-
layout ideas
-
mockup inspiration
I save everything in boards to use as reference later.
